Jai Shrikhand Mahadev: A Kailash Yatra for Pilgrimage

  • Shrikhand Mahadev is situated in Kullu Valley, Himachal Pradesh, India, at a height of lies at 16900 meters from sea level. It’s a pilgrimage trek for the Shiva devotees every year many devotees do the summit of Shrikhand Mahadev Peak.
  • The total distance of the trek is 70KM and the story of this trek is related to Lord Shiva and Bhasmasura, he was an asura or demon Shiva After fulfilling Bhasmasur’s wish, Shiva gave him the power to burn up and immediately turn into ashes anyone whose head he touched with his hand.
  • After getting the powers from Lord Shiva he wanted to test the powers by burning Lord Shiva so Lord Shiva disappeared, and due to that everyone panicked and ran to Lord Vishnu for help.
  • Lord Vishnu agreed to help them and in the form of Mohini, appeared in front of Bhasmasura. Mohini was so a beautiful and angelic form of a woman that Bhasmasura immediately fell in love with Mohini.
  •  Bhasmasura proposed to her to marry him but Mohini was very fond of dancing and only gonna agreed to his proposal if he could match her moves identically.
  • Bhasmasura wanted to marry her by any means so he agreed to the match and hence they started dancing. The feat went on for days at an end.
  •  As Bhasmasura matched the disguised Vishnu’s move by move, he began to let his guard down. While still dancing, Mohini, struck a pose where her hand was placed on top of her own head. As Bhasmasura imitated her, he was tricked into touching his own head, and hence Bhasmasura immediately burnt up and turned into ashes, due to the power he had recently gained.
  • Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra is one of the Panch Kailash Yatra of Hindus where every single person feels different and has their own experiences and different views. So the Other four Kailash Yatra are Kinnaur Kailash in Kinnaur district, Manimahesh Kailash in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, then Adi Kailash in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, and the fifth Kailash Mansarovar Kailash Yatra is in Tibet.

This morning the awesome weather of Shimla leads us to local Sightseeing, and
then we head towards Jaun by cab for a full-day journey. It was hectic for Us,
but after dinner, we discussed the trek and all the necessities required for
the day trek.

Where is the Starting point of Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra Trek?

Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra trek starts from Jaun village where you have to gear up pack your luggage and all necessary things required underway for 2-3 days and then hike to Singhad where you get some refreshments, booking, and health check-ups by government-authorized camps only in the Yatra session, then starts the main trek towards Shrikhand Mahadev.

Experience Travel Itinerary and some Experiences

Now from Shimla to Jaun Village we arranged a cab and reached within 06-07hrs to Dev Dhank to seek the blessings and well wishes for the whole journey of God Shiva and then head towards our first stay in Jaun Village. The next morning after reaching the starting point of the trek, we prepare our backpacks and some dry ration for the journey. The journey starts from Jaun Village.

JAUN – THATI WEEL(Thachru)

Today after a great Yoga and stretching session we had our
breakfast and started our journey from Jaun village to Singhad Village a little long
straight stretch of 04kms where we enrolled for a journal fitness checkup and had some food and other refreshments provided by the authorities, then headed towards Brati Nala 03 km journey from Singhad Village(a lovely tea in camps in
Brati Nala), the tea was refreshing for us then we started Dandi Yatra
Steep Ascent from Brati Nala to Thati Weel(Thachru). Quite a challenging 05km distance can create body aches and exhaustion so one must carry glucose D and other energy bars and most importantly the maximum water intake is the key to reaching Thathi Weel with full energy. After reaching there we booked a camp stay for the night where relaxed for a bit then changed our clothes and wore warmers for the night and massaged our feet for the further trek, after early dinner, we talked to other pilgrimage and shared our thoughts and stories and tried to sleep in cold weather in camps where they provide 0nly 0ne or two blankets for the night. If you are lucky enough you can get a sleeping bag with inner lines as well but I suggest you keep a sleeping bag with you for the journey.

THATI WEEL(Thachru) – KUNSHA

Today we started an Early journey around about 05 am from Thati
Weel(Thachru) to Kali Ghati which is 03km steep ascent and took 2-3hrs to reach Kali top, we had our breakfast in
Thachdu camps and up to Kali Ghati the trek was tough Steep Ascent(Dandi
Chadai), then from Kali Ghati it’s quite good and Lil risky in the rainy season, we
cross 1 or 2 Glaciers and it was a thrilling experience. when we reached Kunsha
it was a real relief for my legs and my body. We traveled almost 04-05km from Kali Ghati to reach Kunsha and we booked a camp stay there for the night near a small water resource.

KUNSHA – PARWATI BAAG (13,600ft approx)

The morning view in Kunsha was unreal to me.
after breakfast, we headed towards Bhim Dwar 03-04km journey, a really pleasant trek the
whole Journey then we had our lunch there and after a few photo shoots in Bhim Dwar, we headed towards the mesmerizing waterfall of Parwati Baag, After a few minutes we headed towards Parwati Baag campsite for the night stay the trek was a steep ascent of 04km, where we crossed
3,4 glaciers then we reached Parwati Baag.

Jai Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra

PARWATI BAAG – SRIKHAND KAILASH(17100ft approx)

we started early 04 am and the
the summit was about to happen the journey began with Rocky Patch to reach Nayan Sarovar Lake which is 03km we also witnessed some
Waterbodies, waterfalls, and Snow walks, I didn’t remember the summit time coz
due to high altitude, I was not able to walk constantly and due to lack of water availability I wasn’t feeling well and then the headache was
frustrating and it also caused high blood I was really angry at every
single thing but the moment I saw Shree Khand Mahadev (Jai Mahadev)I couldn’t express the view
and relief in me the journey was 06-07km from Nayan Sarovar Lake, then we stayed there for 5 to 10 minutes and started
descending to Parwati Baag stayed there in a camp for the night and slept early due to tiredness and long journey altitude sickness. it was a memorable journey with a relief that I was
able to get there without any scars or injuries but my advice was to carry altitude sickness medicine, a water bottle, and a dry ration or energy bar. If your body and mind allow you to summit then you have to manage with your willpower otherwise never force your body so much because the conditions can be worse in the trek.

PARWATI BAAG – THACHRU OR THATI WEEL

The descending journey was a big task All
your body forces you forward and it hurts your knees and legs badly and you have to give way to others also because there are
lots of trekkers underway in a steep ascent to the summit.

THATI WEEL – JAUN

From Thati Weel you have to be prepared for a long descending trek where your trekking stick will help you a lot. As you have to
cover the whole forest area covered with big deodar trees. After reaching Jaun
village we headed towards the homestay and relaxed our legs after taking a warm
water bath enjoyed the night with songs, stories, and photo sharing, our overnight stay at Jaun was memorable.

JAUN –NIRMAND – SHIMLA

Now from Jaun book your cab/taxi, and you can either take the early morning local bus
towards Rampur and then book your tickets to Shimla ISBT.

Now from Shimla ISBT, you can either book a Volvo for an overnight Journey, or Local buses and semi-delux buses are also available.
